Operation RTB : Return to Base

The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Adak is slated to be decommissioned on July 14, 2021. The Adak is a historic ship that led the largest waterborne rescue in world history in New York City on September 11th, 2001, and later captured some of the very first enemy prisoners of war in Iraq. Without a budget to bring her home, and due to current limitations on how to dispose of the ship, the Coast Guard is planning to give the USCGC Adak to the government of Indonesia. This ship is a national historic treasure and we cannot let this happen!

We have urgently requested for congress to help, and congress has responded by agreeing to author legislation to help save the Adak. But, in order to move forward, we need your help.

Here are just of few of the ways you can help:

1. PLEASE SIGN THE CHANGE.ORG Petition!
2. Contact your Congressional representatives and ask them to help stop the Adak from being given to another country. Click here to find your member of Congress. Click here to find your Senator.
3. Contact the U.S. Coast Guard by calling 202.372.4630 and ask them to reconsider giving the Adak to Indonesia.
4. DONATE HERE! Bringing the Adak home and taking care of her as a museum will cost significant money. Please help by donating today.

If we’re successful, the Adak will need to be transported from the Kingdom of Bahrain to the U.S. to her new homeport here in the Tampa Bay area, where she will become an operational museum showcasing Coast Guard history.

The Adak will also serve as a 9-11 memorial to honor those who gave their lives on 9-11 and as a reminder of those who risked their lives to save others on that fateful day.

Additionally, the Adak will also help serve as an educational platform to teach youth about basic seamanship, team building, character development and leadership qualities.

If we fail in our objective, a 9-11 memorial and tribute will become a trophy for a nation plagued by radical Islamic terrorism, human rights abuses and a complete disregard for environmental protection.

We must act now to rescue this national treasure!
